The Games

Nissan Outdoor Games is, without doubt, the top competition of its kind, bringing outdoor sports to the big screen. The event is the pioneer of adventure sports and film making, where for a week, the best kayakers, mountain-bikers, climbers, paragliders and base jumpers will combine with film makers and photographers to share their adventure in the mountains to produce a 5-minute film whilst battling it out for prize money of CHF 70,000. The public is invited to watch the teams production on Saturday night 30th of May, right in the heart of Interlaken. The battle as always in this the fifth year of the Outdoor Games in Interlaken is expected to be fierce with true legends in their disciplines fighting it out in their teams to be crowned the 09 Nissan Outdoor Games champions.

Extreme sports challenges have been taking place in Interlaken for the past four years and this innovative film competition has found its niche in the Bernese resort in the foothills of the Eiger, the Mönsch and the Jungfrau.

5 teams, 5 sports to make a 5-minute film - a competition like no other!
At a time when extreme sports are fashionable in every way and with the increase in participation in outdoor activities the event organisers realised that an original and innovative event concept was needed. Over a week, renowned kayakers, mountain-bikers, climbers, paragliders and base jumpers will perform in teams with a cameraman and photographer to develop the most engaging interpretation of adventure sports in the outdoor environment. Under the close watch of residents, experienced sportsmen will transform the rivers, forests, mountains, glaciers and even the sky around Interlaken into their own film studio. The Nissan Outdoor Games combines sporting achievement with the aesthetic and creative qualities of outdoor sports films.

Once the filming and editing is complete, the film entries will be judged by a jury comprised of professional sportsmen and audiovisual specialists. The finished entries will then be presented to the public on a big screen in the centre of Interlaken (Höhematte), on Saturday evening. The whole town including the terraces, bars and restaurants will join in the festivities to experience an unforgettable evening of action to get the summer in Interlaken off to a great start.

" In February The Nissan Outdoor Games in Chamonix saw five teams blend a breathtaking demonstration of film making with adventure sport and we now can't wait for the summer version in Interlaken during May.  The Nissan Outdoor Games allow athletes to express themselves in the most awe-inspiring way, whilst thrilling the public by capturing their exploits in a five minute film. Nissan is once again proud to be supporting the Outdoor Games and together we are working to increase participation in an active outdoor lifestyle and a sustainable engagement with the natural environment ", comments Jean-Pierre Diernaz, General Manager of Nissans Marketing Communications in Europe.
